Library and Research Services

Information professionals at CCSA are expert searchers in the hundreds of biomedical databases available on STN and Dialog, as well as databases (including PubMed) of the National Center for Biotechnology at the National Library of Medicine. Whether clients begin by doing their own search on PubMed or contract us to handle the project from the start, we can search numerous chemical, drug, patent and European literature databases to find all published research in a study area.

Locating the most relevant information is only the first step. We provide added value by organizing and critically analyzing information to meet the needs of a specific project. We create databases (e.g.,using Reference Manager, End Notes, or our proprietary system) for manuscript preparation. We are experts in designing relational databases to make research goals attainable.

We help complete projects by locating specific information needed to answer individual questions. CCSA librarians use the index strengths of proprietary databases, providing relevant, targeted materials. A sample of past projects include:

  • Collecting, Compiling, and Identifying Potential Nutritional Cancer-preventive Compounds
  • Locating Literature on Pharmacology and Chemistry of Herbal Compounds
  • Identifying and Compiling a Database of Compounds and Their Potential Toxicity
  • Performing Predictive Toxicology Analyses
  • Analyzing Applications of Genomics and Proteomics to Identify Patient Risk and Treatment Outcomes
  • Locating Toxicity Information for a Compound to Be Used in a Drug Delivery Device
  • Identifying Drug Companies in a Particular Biomedical Area for Potential Licensing Contacts
  • Crafting an Overview of the Liver Transplant Market to Assist a Client to Develop a Business Plan
  • Developing Comprehensive Resources on Biomarkers of Carcinogenesis, Characterized by Target Organ and Mechanistic Specificity
  • Critically Assessing the Potential of Selected Biomarkers as Surrogate Endpoints for Cancer

CCSA staff has been working in the information field for more than 20 years. We have designed and implemented numerous databases of chemical structure/ properties and experimental and clinical testing data, as well as annotated rosters of expert consultants in various biomedical research disciplines to make information more accessible.

The CCSA library is a member of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and is a Loansome Doc provider for the San Francisco Bay area region. Both affiliated and unaffiliated users can choose CCSA as their providing library to deliver documents requested through the Loansome Doc system on PubMed.
